Extended Day (EDP) Program

Program Purpose

San Diego Cooperative Charter School's Extended Day Program (SDCCS EDP) is a non-profit program dedicated to supporting the positive development of young people, their families and communities. The program is provided by the school to address the need for a quality before and/or after school child care program. The program follows the same cooperative philosophy as the school.

Program Overview

The EDP high quality, well supervised program offers a balance of activities designed to develop self-esteem and provide a creative educational and recreational experience for children. Planned curriculum includes:

  • Homework time
  • Science and nature
  • Outdoor recreation
  • Literature and music
  • Field trips
  • Arts and crafts
  • Social skills
  • And more

The parent is a partner in insuring the well being of his/her child(ren). Program staff relies on the parent for emergency and other information about the child and family. Open communication and a variety of forms are required for this purpose. It is the parent's responsibility to insure that information provide is correct and updated as changes occur.

The program maintains a ratio of one staff for every 14 children. Individual care cannot be provided. Children who cannot function in a group setting and/or require intensive supervision are referred to other services. Religious instruction or worship will not be provided.

Goals

  • To provide quality child care on or near the school site for children attending SDCCS.
  • To provide an environment that is safe and well supervised by qualified staff.
  • To provide a balance of educational and recreational activities to meet children's needs and interests.
  • To offer subsidized services for eligible families, and offer non-subsidized care at competitive rates.
  • To maintain enrollment according to admission policies and wait list priorities, and to clearly inform families about program policies, due process, and civil rights.
  • To maintain staff policies which promote staff development and program effectiveness.
  • To provide developmentally appropriate curriculum which encourages growth and positive self-esteem.
  • To provide opportunities for parent involvement and education.

Staff

We have 1 director, 9 group leaders in EDP, 2 substitutes, and 3 tutors.

EDP/Recess Director: Bekki Colley.
I have 5 years experience in the education field including managing a few extended day programs over the years as well as working in the classrooms as a student teacher, volunteer and substitute. My education is in Liberal Studies (early childhood education). I love working with children and I enjoy what I do!

Our before care staff are:
Tam- is our opener and supply room coordinator.
Tessa- is our parent board coordinator and also a substitute when needed.

Our after care staff are:
Lacy- works with group A (Kinder), she is our closer and substitute director.
Marisela- works with group B (1st-2nd), she is our substitute closer and art board coordinator.
Melanie- works with group C (3rd grade all and 4th grade girls), she is our equipment coordinator.
Rachel- works with group D (4th grade boys and all 5th grade), she is our music coordinator.
Jessica- works with middle school (group E) and she is our art supply coordinator.
Erica- works with middle school and is our snack coordinator.

We have two great substitutes as well:
Evita- she is a TA during the school day and a substitute when needed.
Amy- is completing her credentials so she can become a teacher and meanwhile substituting as needed.

Our Tutors: are Amy D., Sarah and Jeffrey. They tutor during and after school.
